The Lego group mass removal of 3D printed Lego items on Thingiverse

One of my custom models removedThe model itself, an intermediate part to fill the gap in Lego’s selection of sprockets between the 6 and 10 tooth sprocketsIt appears that earlier today TLG (The Lego group) issued a mass take-down of models from Thingiverse and MyMiniFactory. This involved a long list of Lego related items that were seen as infringing on TLG’s property. This not only includes items that are direct copies of Lego bricks, but also many custom parts that I and others had designed to solve problems that were not possible to do currently without custom solutions, including many custom gears designed to fill gaps in TLG’s lineup of parts. Currently Shapeways still has their models available, however It wouldn’t surprise me that those would be removed in wake of the other two sites. As a member of the Lego Technic community, this would affect many who use that site for ordering durable custom parts to accomplish things that the current lineup of Lego parts fail to offer solutions for. I understand the reasoning why this happened to protect TLG’s property, but it ended up impacting many custom solutions as well. I hope that TLG can provide guidelines to follow for future models, so they can allow us to continue to expand our creativity beyond the scope of what Lego has to offer through 3D printing. https://ift.tt/2nf26St
